Guinness materassi più grande del mondo Fariello

THE WORLD’S BIGGEST MATTRESS: 19x16 metres.
FARIELLO MATRESSES ENTERS GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS

On the 6th September 2008,
the firm “Fariello mattresses” has entered “Guinness World Records” in Vallo della Lucania (SA) - south of Italy - with a dream record: The world’s biggest mattress.

Guinness Materasso World Record mattressOften people are talking about the Guinness World Records, but a real record is only the one that has gone through the rigid procedure of London’s GWR. It’s not enough to have an exceptional idea, to realize it and send in a picture. It is necessary to get the approval of the jury in London first and then to satisfy all requirements. We have fulfilled all the criteria that GWR has imposed on us, and so we are registered in GWR as No. 223194.

A public official had been sent especially in order to check not only the dimensions, but also the fulfilment of all other requirements that the regulations had imposed.

Used material: 100springings/casings measuring 160x190, comprehending 200 single springs/m2, corresponding to about 40’000 springs for a weight of 1900 kg. About 200 sheets of extended polyurethane at a height of 18 cm, equivalent to 3500 kg of material. 500 mtl of cloth, created especially for the occasion. 100 bedsteads with wooden staves, measuring 160x190 that function as worktop and are the base for the mattress. 210 mtl of perimetral assemblated bands. 02 cushions, each of 8 metres’ length.

Production time: The time of production of the maxi mattress was more than 10 hours, employing a team of 20 volunteers. On Saturday, 6th September 2008, at 7 a.m., the volunteers began to transport all the materials from the Fariello mattresses factory to the central square in Vallo della Lucania, and they began to assemble piece after piece on the square. The first step was to combine 100 bedsteads measuring 160x190 each, that would function as a worktop and as the base of the mattress. Then the cloth was spread on it, and on this base were put 100 sheets of extended polyurethane, each measuring 160x190 cm. The springing was set on the same, and at last the bedsprings were covered with the sheets of polyurethane and with the cloth again. In the end the borders of the mattress were sown with bands.

Weight of the mattress only: about 6 tons.

Area covered by the maxi mattress: The surface covered by the maxi mattress was equivalent to the one of 100 double beds (measuring 160x190), that is 304 m2. The height of the mattress, taking into the account also the height of the bedsteads, was about 1m.

The Guinness: Nicola Fierro of Ascea Marina, engineer, measured the mattress. He was a volunteer, but acted in a professional way and was accepted officially by the office of Guinness World Records in London. The job of Luigi Cobellis, Mayor of Vallo, was to certify as a public official that the mattress was really worth a Guinness World Record, as it was put down in the regulations. Besides, the Director of Guinness World Records of London, Marco Frigatti, appeared personally in Vallo della Lucania (SA) in order to check the whole procedure in every detail and proclaim the record.

The aim of our firm: To “attract attention to our territory and in particular to Vallo della Lucania so as to feel the throbbing of the centre of the Cilento, our national park, and to promote tourism”. We wanted especially to show what new direction this territory might take: Not only to be a place characterized by natural beauty and wonders, but also to be a centre of firms that can boast products of fine workmanship and handicraft with its proper principles and potential.
